World's smallest and lightest LiDAR sensor AS-DT1
automatica 2025 - Sony presents
At automatica 2025 in Munich (June 24-27, Hall B4, Stand 106), Sony presented the AS-DT1 Miniature LiDAR Depth Sensor to the general public for the first time. The sensor measures just 29 × 29 × 31 mm, weighs only 50 g and offers high-precision distance scanning via dToF technology with a SPAD sensor - indoor range up to 40 m, outdoor range up to 20 m.
Sony AS‑DT1
1. Core features of the AS-DT1
Direct Time-of-Flight (dToF) with SPAD sensor for precise 3D measurements at 30 fps
Accuracy: ± 5 cm at a distance of 10 m, indoors & outdoors
Range: up to 40 m (indoors), 20 m outdoors at 100,000 lux
Robust, lightweight aluminum housing - ideal for drones and mobile robots
2. Application
Logistics & warehouse - autonomous robots recognize even low-contrast objects
Drone inspection - infrastructure, bridges, pipelines with high accuracy
Service robots - in gastronomy or retail
Bridge and building monitoring - can be implemented up to 20 m outdoor
3. Launch & availability
Premiere at automatica 2025 in Munich (June 24-27, Hall B4/106)
Commercial availability expected in October 2025
Why the AS-DT1 is a game changer
| Advantage | Meaning for users |
|---|---|
| Miniature size & weight | Easy integration into drones & mobile machines |
| High range & accuracy | Precise measurement even in poor lighting |
| Robustness & aluminum housing | Reliability in harsh industrial environments |
| Versatile integration | Flexible in robotics, infrastructure, service industry |
Conclusion
The Sony AS-DT1 combines impressive miniaturization with industrial precision. Thanks to dToF technology with SPAD sensor, it provides reliable depth information up to 40 m indoors and up to 20 m outdoors. Its low weight and robust design make it ideal for drones and autonomous systems. The presentation at automatica 2025 in Munich marks the official market launch - series production will begin in early 2026.
