The right lighting for a scenario is usually underestimated. It is crucial that the contrast between interesting and uninteresting features of the target is maximized by means of optimal illumination. Only in this way can a camera system generate images that can then be automatically evaluated.
Since cameras, unlike the human eye, do not "see" but only capture reflected light, objects appear differently. In order to bring out special object properties, an optimally adapted lighting technique is required. When we speak of this, we mean the positioning of the light source in relation to the camera and the test object, and it takes into account both external and internal lighting options.
A problem-specific adaptation of the illumination technology is always worthwhile, because it takes into account all optical system components and technical conditions of the image processing system, avoids expensive and time-consuming image post-processing (often this is also no longer possible and image information is lost) and produces a reproducible result.
